Data visualization

My role: Data Visualization designer

In my work as a Data Visualization UX Designer at Apple, I’ve learned that there is no such thing as the perfect dashboard. That said, I strive to best explain my clients metrics and data in a clean, coherent way. Each dashboard I create is relevant to my client, the problem we are trying to solve and what is the most important aspect they are trying to convey. I am not at liberty to show any of the work I’ve done at Apple due to an NDA, but I do have a collection of non Apple work using Tableau SuperStore data. Additionally, I am a certified desktop specialist in Tableau and I am also certified in Google Analytics.

My collection of work can be found on Tableau Server. You will see my design solutions for a variety of issues with Sankey Charts, Dendograms, Dynamic Dashboards, Churn Rate and Drill downs.

I of course cannot take all of the credit for the great ideas. I’ve learned so much from Storytelling with Data, Edward Tufte, Andy Kriebel from Makeover Monday and The Big Book of Dashboards. I’m always learning and growing with daily practice so I can provide the best design solutions. Below are a few screenshots of my work, feel free to go to my collection to see all of my dashboard in action.

Tools used: Tableau, Google Analytics

Dendogram Chart using Tableau SuperStore Data.

Sales by region

Created using a drill down feature to break down sales by region and states bar chart along with sales by size per region in the map.

Credit to Andy Kriebel at Makeover Monday for the tutorials.

Sankey Diagram

Created to show the sales by category and region.

A very important visualization is for the stakeholders to know the exact churn rate by 6 months or 12 months.

Credit to Andy Kriebal at Makeover Monday for teaching me how to do this.
